collection story
When I was a student, I lived in a small town called Lethbridge, Canada, and decided to move to Montreal to attend fashion school. I packed all the necessary luggage into the manual Saturn I was driving at the time and started my 3,500km journey.
I drove until midnight to save on accommodation costs along the way, but I remember being scared to drive down a road where I couldn't see the road ahead because there were no street lights in rural Canada. Looking back, this journey may have been the concrete starting line for me to pursue my career as a designer.
It took us two nights and three days to arrive in Montreal, a European-style metropolis. The inspired feeling of ``I'm going to become someone in this town'' still remains in my heart, and when I think back on it, I can still feel the heartbeat that came from the incredible hope of those days, echoing in my heart with nostalgia. I think it's because of this big feeling that I'm still going down the path I set out on when I was 20 years old, even now, 17 years later.
So how far into the future does this journey as a designer continue?
We won't know until we move forward.
The word "Wandermore", which is the theme of this collection, is a slang word that combines "wander" and "more" and means "continue your journey in pursuit of your dreams." My driving forces are two things: the fear and emptiness I sometimes feel because my dreams are too big, and the rebellious spirit that drives me in response.
I'm sure many people feel the same anxiety as I do when heading towards something they want to do. That's why I want the clothes I make to give courage to those who take on challenges in life. I want fashion to be more than just a piece of cloth, but like a magical cloak for the wearer.
I designed it with the hope of being a part of someone's happiness, just like music that gives you energy when you listen to it. The pop graphics are particular about printing techniques, so they have a gimmick that is exciting when you actually see them. The use of distinctive patterns and unique silhouettes will make you feel a little different from usual.
When designing, I have a habit of reading the thought process of creators in other industries. Music is especially close to me, and I hold photo sessions with musicians for each collection.
This season, glamb collaborated with Shinya Ishihara of Saucy Dog. He was exposed to music at a much younger age than I was to fashion, and he followed the path of reaching the big stage, so I saw him as a great man, and I learned a lot from him.
I feel like there are still many fun stories to be told on the path I'm on. I would be happy if the journey of life for everyone who reads this turns out to be colorful.
Wandermore,
glamb Head Designer
T.K.
I’m on the road.
The path is dark, yet steady beneath me.
As I move forward, a larger journey begins.
